Birthdays are commonly viewed as a time for festivities, joy, and socializing with loved ones. For numerous individuals, this entails hosting a lively gathering complete with music, dancing, and engaging discussions. Nevertheless, with age, I am increasingly inclined towards a different form of celebration – one that encompasses the serene flow of water, the calmness of the outdoors, and the tranquil solitude of fishing.
The Call of Serenity
As a Wellness Space Specialist and yoga instructor, I have dedicated my life to creating calm and serene environments, both for myself and for others. My work in an Acute Behavioral Health Hospital and my passion for yoga have taught me the immense value of finding peace within. It is this pursuit of inner calmness that has led me to prefer spending my birthday fishing rather than hosting a party.
To me, fishing is more than just a pastime; it is a cherished custom. Engaging in the activity of casting a fishing line and patiently awaiting a catch is akin to a form of meditation. It enables me to relax, take deep breaths, and be fully present in the moment. Amidst the tranquility of the outdoors, I discover a grounding sensation that is difficult to attain amidst the noise and commotion of a social gathering.
Finding Grounding in Nature
There is something profoundly grounding about being near water. The gentle lapping of the waves against the shore, the rustling of the leaves in the breeze, and the songs of the birds create a symphony of tranquility. These natural sounds have a way of soothing the mind and calming the soul, allowing me to let go of the stresses and worries that often accompany daily life.
When I am fishing, I am fully present. I am aware of the sensations around me – the cool breeze on my skin, the warmth of the sun, and the feel of the fishing rod in my hands. This heightened awareness helps me connect with my God and my inner self, fostering a sense of peace and contentment that I carry with me long after I leave the water’s edge.
A Celebration of Self
Choosing to spend my birthday fishing is, in many ways, a celebration of myself. It is a time for introspection and self-reflection, a chance to honor my journey and the person I have become. It allows me to recharge my spirit and renew my commitment to living a life of serenity and mindfulness.
While parties can be fun and joyous, they often bring a level of noise and chaos that contrasts sharply with the serenity I seek. Fishing, on the other hand, offers me the perfect blend of solitude and connection – solitude with my thoughts and connection with nature. It is a gift I give myself, a way to nurture my soul and embrace the tranquility that I hold dear.
Embracing What Truly Matters
As I cast my line into the water and watch the ripples expand outward, I am reminded of the importance of staying true to myself and holding space to embrace time with family. Celebrating my birthday in this serene manner reinforces my commitment to cultivating divine calmness and love, one serene moment at a time. It is a reminder that true celebration comes from within, from honoring what brings us joy and peace.
So, as I mark another year of life, I choose to embrace the serenity of fishing over the excitement of a party. It is my way of grounding myself, of finding harmony in the stillness, and of celebrating the beauty of being alive.
In the end, it is not the number of people who gather to celebrate with us those matters, but the quality of the moments we create for ourselves. And for me, one of those moments are best found in the quiet embrace of nature, with a fishing rod in hand and a heart full of gratitude.
