Choosing Me: A Heartfelt Reminder to Stop Chasing What’s Not Aligned

Life is too short.
We hear that phrase often, but it holds more truth the older, wiser, and more grounded we become. Life is too short to keep showing up for people who don’t value your presence. It’s too short to keep knocking on doors that are clearly shut, too short to keep dimming your light just to fit into spaces that don’t even notice you’re there.
Today, I made a decision. One rooted in peace, not bitterness. In clarity, not confusion. I will no longer pour into connections where the effort isn’t mutual. I don’t care if it was a childhood friend, a family member, or a relationship that spanned years, if I’m the only one trying, then it’s time to let go.
There’s a certain type of ache that comes from realizing someone you cared about didn’t care in return. That ache can be even deeper when you gave them every opportunity, when you tried to stay present, when you reached out first, when you made excuses for their silence. But the truth is, love, respect, and connection are two-way streets. If they wanted to be there, they would be.
So from this day forward, I choose to water myself. I choose to nourish the woman I am becoming. I choose to walk in the purpose God gave me, to serve, to heal, to love, to create peace. But I will no longer sacrifice my peace to prove my worth to people who can’t see it.
And to those who might start whispering once I’ve walked away, saying “what happened” or “why she change?” know this: I stayed longer than I should’ve. I gave more than I had. I tried. And in the end, I chose me.
The real ones will understand. The ones who don’t? Well, they made their choices when they had the chance to be present and didn’t.
Let this be your reminder: you don’t have to chase love, friendship, or respect. The right people will match your energy, your effort, and your heart. And when you let go of what isn’t for you, you make room for what is.
I’m walking in grace now, with open hands, open heart, and no regrets.
Because life is too short not to.
